The Norway Slaughter

Calm, meticulous, hatred that ‘sees human beings’ as less than human beings. Reminds me of genocidal killings, from Hitler to Rwanda.

Incomprehensible and terrifying.

From the NY Times today, one sentence says it all (edited):
“In police uniform, he calmly convinced the children he meant to save them. When they emerged in the open, he fired again and again.”

We grieve, extend compassion and feel deep and powerful hatred ourselves for the murderer and we call for justice and punishment.

But do we even understand, really understand, what drives a human being to do this to other human beings?

Do we really have any idea how to prevent this kind of horror?
